Week 3 Story: The Rejection

Image
There were once two kids who lived on the same street, Adam and Lilith. Their parents were all best friends and they were practical raised together. Both were raised to be intelligent and witty. Adam and Lilith's parents always joked that they were destined to be together. As they grew up Adam always demanded that he was better than Lilith since he was taller and faster than her. Lilith hated this. She always felt like she was destined for something bigger. When middle school time arrived, Adam and Lilith carpooled together since they lived so close. Everyone thought they were dating and in middle school this is a huge deal. As they continued to grow up the pressure to date just continued to increase.  Eventually, when they were both sixteen they dated. Adam with his pubscent mind thought he was the most popular and the best looking guy. All Adam's friends asked Adam when he was going to have sex with Lilith. Adam replied, "When she's lucky". Word got around to

Reading Notes, Adam and Eve, Part B

Image
After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, God sent them to a cave that was dark. In the cave, Adam was frightened by a snake. Adam begs God to punish them in a place where there are no snakes.God grants this, but with Adam still fearful and insecure he throws himself down the mountain. Eve committed suicide because she was so sad. Adam felt sad that he messed up in the Garden. He never felt hardship with God there looking over him.  (The Garden from Pixabay ) Bibliography:  Rutherford H. Reading Notes, Adam and Eve, Part A

Image
Adam was the first man to be created by God  in his likeness. Adam had a first wife named Lilith before Eve. Lilith wanted the same equality as Adam, but of course because she was a woman she wasn't granted that :(. She ran away from him and did not return.  Eve was enticed by a serpent to eat fruit from a tree that God had forbidden them to eat from. She also gave the fruit to Adam.  (Yellow Green Cat Snake from Wikipedia ) Bibliography:  Louis Ginzberg, Lilith, http://mythfolklore.blogspot.com/2014/05/adam-and-eve-lilith.html Louis Ginzberg, The Fall of Man, http://mythfolklore.blogspot.com/2014/05/adam-and-eve-fall-of-man.html

Week 2: Famous Last Words

Image
My other classes are pretty good. I'm not too stressed right now as it is syllabus week. In Pathogenic Lab we did review of basic Microbiology techniques. I have been a MBIO lab every semester for awhile so it was a breeze. Although I do feel guilty because there are some people that really struggled with the basics. This same correlation happened in my Capstone class. There were some kids who couldn't gram stain or even see anything by navigating a microscope. In the Pathogenic Lab, I let this girl observe how I did quadrant streaks to get isolated colonies. I've done hundreds of these streaks and I don't know if they just dropped the ball on her training. In Capstone lab, I had to leave my microscope at one point while people walked by to see an example of things they should be observing. I thought these classes were going to be challenging, and I still think they are. However, I just think they are gonna progress really slow which is only mildly nerve racking. My Phy

Week 2 Review

Image
During the week I was freaking out about school. I was scrolling through tik tok one day and I found a whole video of Llamas and Alpacas just smiling. It made me smile and I feel like everyone should be blessed with it in their head.  (Smiling Llama from Pixabay )

Growth Mindset: I Regret Nothing. Nothing.

Image
I've had to repeat this phrase repeatedly over my short time on this Earth. Everyone has gone through hardships and struggles. Sometimes it feels like they are never ending, but in reality they do. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions. As long as they fall within your beliefs I don't feel like you should dwell on the fact you made that decision for too long. You can be putting your time and energy freaking out or obsessing over something else.  (Cat meme from Emirates Women)

Tech Tips: Online Typing Test

I used Monkeytype as my online typing test platform. I liked the aesthetic  of this website and how the words were very random. I honestly thought I was a faster typer than what I got. It told me my average was 70 words per minute. My accuracy was at 98%. I have never taken time to improve my typing. When I was in the 7th grade there was a required keyboard class, but computers wasn't anything I worked with daily until college. I type a lot more now for this class and technology is so ingrained with society I feel like I need to become a better typer.

Feedback Thoughts

Image
For the two articles, I chose " Silence the Critical Voices in Your Head " and " A fixed mindset could be holding you back — here's how to change it ". Earlier today, I was actually talking to my friends about Imposter Syndrome. We all felt like in one way or another we didn't believe that we belonged where we currently stood whether it be in school or personal relationships. We were talking about this upcoming semester and our impending futures after college. I think the stress of this semester, even though it just started, as already taken a toll on us. I found that these articles were exactly what I needed to hear today. I think it's kinda funny how that works sometimes.  I think things I need to improve on that were highlighted in these articles were: to stop magnifying my mistakes and to look at the positives, and to change how I think. They are really small changes when you talk about them. However, I feel like my current routine in how I process

Topic Brainstorm

Image
I would potentially like to retell King Arthur and some members of his round table. Each section it could be retold in a different character's perspective which could be interesting into diving in on how they felt. Growing up, I was captivated by knights and shining armors. I feel like doing research over this topic will feel nostalgic and interesting. Not to mention that  King Arthur and Excalibur is a pretty well known story. I think it could be fun trying to turn it modern and maybe doing a twist of it in school. I also think it could be fun retelling King Arthur as a girl. Link.  Another topic I would like to explore is Fairytale Villains. Villains are always the antagonists, but I think it could be fun to retell a story or two as them as the protagonist. The stories that they are told in are always black and white. If life has taught me anything is that it is never just black and white and that it is a whole rainbow. Giving humanizing qualities and justifying their perspective

Week 2 Story: Generosity for Others

Image
It was a windy and cold day in Oklahoma as the leaves were just turning red.  There were three good friends: Nick, Beth, and Ruth.  Nick was the "goody goody" of the group. He always pushed Beth and Ruth to be better people in life. He advised Beth and Ruth to be charitable and to be nice to others regardless of their situations. Beth that day went running around the park. As she was running she found a beanie that had fallen on the ground. She looked in front of her to see if anyone was around. After looking in front of her only she decided to take the hat for herself because she liked it.  Ruth was at school when she found an extra lunch sitting on a table near her. It appeared to be untouched. She looked around to see if anyone was going to claim it. She deemed that no one was going to collect it and put it into a bag to eat later.  Nick, Beth, and Ruth made plans to go to the store that day. Nick was a working student who had his necessities and lived a very modest life;

Reading Notes: The Hare that was not Afraid to Die

Image
I really enjoyed the main theme of The Hare that was not Afraid. The story starts by starts by stating that Buddha was reborn as the hare who taught other animals lessons. The Hare was a selfless rabbit that was devout compared to the other characters in the story.  (A Rabbit by Pixabay ) "One day the Buddha said: "Tomorrow is a fast day. Feed any beggars that come to you by giving from your own store of food." They all consented." With this in mind the other animals collected food. Each animal found food, however, the Hare usually ate grass so he did not collect extra as other "beggars" will most likely not eat it. When the King of the Gods, Sakka, heard of the lesson the Hare told the animals, he wanted to test the animals to see if the animals would follow Buddha's lesson. The animals all gave their food. The hare aka Buddha did not have food so he offered his body/meat.  Now I think the theme was not to offer your body as meat and kill yourself for

Week 2 Reading Overview

Image
Choose from CLASSICAL and/or BIBLICAL units for Weeks 3 and 4. Week 3: Adam and Eve  Week 4: Women and Saints Choose from MIDDLE EASTERN and/or INDIAN units for Weeks 5 and 6. Week 5: Twenty-Two Goblins Week 6: Santal Choose from ASIAN and/or AFRICAN units for Weeks 7 and 9. [Week 8 is review week.] Week 7: Japanese Mythology Week 9: China Folktales  Choose from NATIVE AMERICAN units for Weeks 10 and 11. Week 10: Cherokee  Week 11: Great Plains Choose from BRITISH and/or CELTIC units for Weeks 12 and 13. Week 12: Aesop's Fables  Week 13: King Arthur Choose from EUROPEAN units for Weeks 14 and 15. Week 14: Crane Week 15: Librivox I chose most of these because the topics were familiar. I think it would be really fun to retell these iconic stories with a spin on them. On Weeks 7 and 9, I was really unsure what I wanted to choose because I was pretty unfamiliar with all of the suggested topics. On weeks like this one I always like a trickster story. I also love fantasy topics as

Time Management

Image
(Alarm clock: Clipart Library )           The articles I chose to read for this assignment were the first three: "The Impotance of Just Starting" , " How Checklists Train Your Brain To Be More Productive And Goal-Oriented" , and "How to Beat Procrastination" .  I chose some of these because I feel like I have problems in these areas. I also already use checklists religiously. It feels so satisfying to see how productive you really are. I did learn quite a couple of nice tricks I would like to incorporate. For example, I might tie my goals to giving myself little treats so then I can have things I can looking forward to.            Based off of my classes last semester, I think I can definitely  work on my procrastination. At times, I would procrastinate in one class because I didn't enjoy the material. As a result, I would have to put in ten times more effort than what I would've put in if I just didn't procrastinate. I agree that it is

Technology

Image
(Technology: Pixbay )         Since COVID-19 has taken a big toll on everyone's life, technology has been an integral part in accomplishing a lot of tasks. With all the changes to school, online classes are no stranger.   I was pretty familiar with the technology tools listed in the assignment except for the word count extension. I downloaded it immediately as an extension on my Google Chrome. My only tip or helpful suggestion that I can think of is if you right click on a tab in Google Chrome, you can group tabs together. This is especially useful if you're working on different classes or different subjects for an assignment.

Assignments Chapter 1

Image
I am most intrigued about the storybooks that I will be composing for this class. I really enjoyed reading the storybooks and in fact I think I read about 15 different ones. It amazed me the array of topics and freedom we have over writing. The imagination that some of the authors had were awe-striking. I have not been in a class that is this writing intensive in awhile and not to mention that the sky's the limit for this class. While reading the extra credit assignments, I was interested in the growth mindset/ HEART topic. While writing this weeks growth mindset, I almost felt relaxed because it was therapeutic.  (Photo of Roses by Lucy Cuneo )

Growth Mindset

Image
(Brain picture from the Archziner )         Before this assignment, I had never heard of Carol Dweck or the growth mindset. I do think that establishing  a growth mindset would greatly impact the youth today. Instead of feeling anxiety or feeling like a failure when things are not "correct" people can feel empowered to seek the real answers and thought processes instead. I would be super interested to learn more about this as the semester progressed. I do admit that as I have advanced in my educational career, grades have been more important than learning material. At times I would just memorize things for upcoming test than for my enjoyment. Getting into graduate schools are very competitive  and challenging. If school was somehow a combination of correctness and this growth mindset, I feel school would be a lot less dreadful for the average student. I can count on more than my hands the amount of people I know that dread getting up for school. OU has definitely  taught me t

Introduction to a my Simple Life

Image
My name is Jessica and I am a senior majoring in Microbiology. A cool thing I like about my major is that microorganisms run the world; they're all around you and they're so diverse. A class I really enjoyed last semester  was Pathogenic Microorganisms and Infectious Diseases. I want to one day become a Physician Associate  and this class just fascinated me. We studied a lot of diseases and different microbes that could compromise  your health. The epidemiology of these pathogens fascinated  me and it was a one of a kind class. I currently work at a doctor's office right now as a medical assistant. I love my job and everyday is always a different day. H opefully  after I graduate I will be accepted into a program to get me closer to my goal.  I am the youngest of four which makes me the baby of the family. My parents both roughly have seven brothers and sisters. So my immediate and extended family are big. There is truly not a dull moment with my family and there is always

Storybook Favorites

Image
( Flower and a book ) Hades' Iliad (Kerstiaen de Keuninck, The Fire of Troy: Wikipedia Commons )          I chose this story as it had a very different perspective of Hades. Typically, Hades is casted in a negative light. I thought it was interested that he was humanized in a way. I was mildly confused through the other viewpoints in the other parts of this story, however, it was still interesting. Everything was pretty detailed and had lots of good imagery. The art used throughout this post was represented of the feelings each perspective had in a way. It was a pretty creative story about people I had already formed preconceived notions on.  Queen of the Underworld (Persephone by Marta Dahlig from Deviant Art . )           I chose this story because it had an interesting title. It had beautiful artwork. Usually when someone says ruler of the underworld I think of Hades, however, the title mentioned it was a queen. Of course Persephone and Hades are two figure heads in mythology.

My Favorite Place... Victoria, Canada

Image
Victoria, Canada (Empress Hotel in Victoria Canada: Wikimedia Commons )       Before Covid, I loved to traveled. I've been to Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and countless places in the States. However, my favorite place I've traveled to by far is Victoria, Canada. If you haven't noticed by my blog page, I love flowers and anything floral or green is my favorite. In Victoria, there is a huge 55 acre garden called Butchart Gardens. It is covered head to toe in just about every flower you can think of in all the colors of the rainbow. In addition to the garden, the whole city is covered in flowers as well which is why it is my favorite place to visit. Here are just a couple of pictures that I look on my most recent trip there.  (Personal photo of Butchart Gardens taken by me) (Personal photo of Butchart Gardens taken by me) (Personal photo of Butchart Gardens taken by me)
