Storybook Plan

Image
My story source that I will use for the majority of my inspiration is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Changeling 1st story: the fairy parents reasoning behind switching the babies 2nd story: the human baby realizing it's not a fairy  3rd story: where the fairy baby is 4th story: I may want to reunite the fairy parents with the changeling and realizing maybe it wasn't best to switch the two babies.  The stories in this project will connect altogether. I want the main idea to be that things happen for a reason and that if things were meant to be it will eventually work out.  (A fairy baby from  Tom Halvereson )

Reading Notes: Twenty-Two Goblins, Part B

Image
So I don't know how I didn't notice this before, but the stories all start with a goblin telling the King a story. I kinda feel dumb because I'm assuming that's why it's called Twenty-Two Goblins. There is a different goblin with a new story every time.  The daughter in the story linked down below was in love with the thief. I guess you can say the thief stole her heart. haha anyways. Everyone wanted the daughter. There were a lot of suitors asking for her hand in marriage, but she saw something in the thief which is kinda sweet. The thief stole a lot from the King and the King couldn't let him go unpunished.  Once the thief was executed and brought back to life because the daughter was so good, he was promoted to general and the thief was reformed. Maybe people can change, but who knows.  Illustration by Perham W. Nahl (1917) Bibliography:  Arthur W. Reading Notes: Twenty-Two Goblins, Part A

The ending is what really caught my attention when choosing a story to do notes on. At first I was confused at:" When the goblin heard this, he escaped by magic from the king's shoulder and disappeared. And the king followed him as before. Discouragement never enters the brave heart of a resolute man." and the context of this paragraph in the story. The King was sure in his decision of who his daughter should marry in that moment. I always struggled with doubting my decisions and if I truly made the right choice.  I thought it was intersting how the King gave his daughter to the Swordsman. He mentioned he had manhood with his science and it's almost crazy to think of how marriages are set up in some cultures.  Bibliography: Arthur W Ryder, The Four Scientific Suitors,  http://mythfolklore.blogspot.com/2014/06/goblins-four-scientific-suitors.html (illustrations by Perham W. Week 3 Review

I always hate that feeling of guessing pronouns especially if it's the first time I'm meeting someone. When using zoom and canvas as the sole point of contact in some classes this should be required.

Growth Mindset: Struggle into Strength

(Image from Pixy ) There have been a lot of roadblocks this week, but in a couple of weeks I think I will appreciate some of the things that happened.

Tech Tip: Firefox

I always use Google chrome on my laptop. Sometimes if that doesn't work I will use Safari. Just in case that doesn't work it will be helpful to use Firefox because you never know.

Famous Last Words: A Specifically Hard Week

Image
This week has been challenging. Earlier last week my Grandpa passed away. I had to go to his funeral on Wednesday and I also neglected to do homework in the days prior to it. I am now getting back into my groove, but only slightly. I think the snow days and the bad weather will force me to be productive because I'll be bored all the time. I missed a couple assignments in my other class because I was distracted which kinda sucks and I need to get ahead again. Some of my teachers have been very lenient, but others haven't. I'm gonna work very hard and study hard for my upcoming tests in my Microbiology Physiology class. The last two weeks in that class have gotten hard and it takes me three times as long to get the lecture done since I'm always rewinding to hear a specific detail. On top of all of this my old roommate moved out and my new one moved in/ I had so much to clean and my old roommate took some of my stuff and left her stuff.  My friends have been slightly dist

Feedback Strategies

Image
I read the Articles " The Difference Between Praise and Feedback " by Anya Kamenetz and " How to Give Bad Feedback Without Being a Jerk " by Adam Grant. Both of these articles pointed out not to be superficial while giving feedback. In the first article, superficial feedback is just praise. It gives the person no sustenance to really appreciate. In the second article, giving "compliment sandwich" is really ineffectual. Instead being transparent and keeping in mind that you are there to help them is the best way to giving feedback.  (An image from Justin Tarte )

Topic Research: Changelings

I would like to tell a story of the fairy parents and their reasoning behind switching the babies. From my research, some possible reasons that fairies did this were because they wanted that human child to act as a servant, or this was an act of punishment to the human parents. In the scandinavian tales of trolls, they would switch babies so their own would have a good life. I would like to play on the fact that the parents wanted their own to have a better life. Maybe there was a food blight and they couldn't provide for a growing baby. Once they switched the babies, I want to write about how they even may have seen the human baby as their own.  The next story I would like to tell is the human baby realizing it wasn't a fairy. In my research, the human child usually stays with the fairy families. I think there would be a internal struggle if the human baby would go back or stay with the fairy family.  The last story I would like to tell is the changeling baby and the parents.
